Which League do I register with?
You should register with the League whose geographic boundaries contain the
majority of your players.
League 29 - Fruit Heights, Farmington, Kaysville and Layton.
League 30 - Eden, Farr West, Harrisville, Huntsville, North Ogden, Ogden
City, Plain City and Pleasant View.
League 35 - Clearfield, Hooper, Mountain Green, Riverdale, Roy, South
Ogden, South Weber, Syracuse, Uintah, Washington Terrace, West Haven and West Point.
Academy League - All U8-U9 Teams
What do I need to know in order to pick a "Home Field?"
League 29 - Please place your home field preference on your registration
forms. Due to field limitations your home games may be played at different
field locations. Fields are assigned by the Field Coordinator and Referee
Assignor based on the Age Division, Field Availability, Referee Availability
and overall demands on the fields in League 29. If you have specific
questions, please contact the League 29 President or Registrar.
League 30 and 35 - Please review the FAQ "What fields can I choose from for a home field." With each field location, you must get in touch with the
Field Coordinator to get preliminary permission to use that field prior to
including it on your registration form. Once schedules are published in the
Fall, it is the coaches' responsibility to notify the Field Coordinator of
the playing schedule and work out any scheduling conflicts.
Academy League - A home field can be requested, but will depend on team concentrations.
What are the field size requirements?
4:02:01 UYSA Rules of Play & Policies - FIFA Law 1 provides for flexible
external field dimensions within a given maximum and minimum width and
length. These dimensions should be adhered to for all fields used by teams
under-12 and older.
POLICY: COMPETITION FIELDS
Fields used within the competition program must be a minimum of 100 x
60 yards. Leagues, districts or associations participating in the state
competition program that are unable to provide a field that meets these
minimum requirements must advise the State Competition Board which
will assign its Fields Committee to inspect the field and recommend to the
Board whether or not a waiver of the minimum dimensions should be
granted. Teams from leagues, districts or associations that are unable to
provide an acceptable field may be required to play all their games away.
POLICY: FIELDS USED BY YOUNG AGE GROUPS.
The dimensions of fields used by recreation teams under-10 and younger
should be less than FIFA rules. U-6 teams should play on a field
approximately 20 X 40 yards with no penalty areas. Fields for older age
groups should be progressively larger. USYSA recommends U-8 should
play on a field 40-50 yards in length and 20-30 yards width. It is
recommended U-10 play on a field 70-80 yards in length and 40-50 yards
in width. In addition, fields used by young age groups may have their
internal dimensions and size of goal similarly modified.
What is the difference between playing "District" and "State?"
1) District home and away games are both played locally within District 4
boundaries. State away games can be played anywhere in the State of Utah
and are determined by the home fields of teams with in a particular
division. The teams in any one division may shift from season to season and
year to year. For an idea of where teams in a certain age bracket are from,
check out the State Website. Click on "Competition Soccer," "Spring
Competition League" for either boys or girls. Scroll down to the age group
you are interested in and click on "Brackets." You will not know until the
alignment process (that takes place right before the season starts after
registration) which division you will be assigned, but you can at least get
an idea of where different teams in a particular age group come from. If it
is your first time to "Go State," you will more than likely start off in the
lowest division for that age group.
2) Not all Districts within the State have their own District play like
District 4. In that case, all teams from those districts go straight into
the State Gaming League. How does this affect your team? Historically
District 4 teams stay in the District pool of play for the convenience of
local games until their need for increased competitive play requires them to
look to the State Gaming League. In order for a District team to get placed
competitively in their first season of State play, the coach must provide
alignment statistics on games and/or tournaments played against other
current State Teams. Keeping good records of each game played using a
"Match Analysis Worksheet" will help when it becomes necessary to provide a
detailed "Alignment Form" with your registration papers for State play.

If I want to referee, how do I get certified?
The State has a special Referee Website
http://www.utahsoccerrefs.com/pages/index.html
This site contains the most update and current information on referee
activities. Historically the majority of First Time Referee Certifications
take place, oddly enough, between the fall and spring season. There are
recertification classes prior to the Fall season, but they are only for
previously certified referees.
On a district level, we plan to hold at least one Recreation Grade referee
certification classes in August. Our District 4 Referee Director Pat
McFadden (801) 544-9381 joseph.mcfadden@hill.af.mil will be in charge of
organizing and teaching these classes. Please let him know if you are
interested in being contacted when a class becomes available. You can also
check back on the District 4 website for updated information.
How do I get my Coaching License?
For information concerning Coaching License please visit the State Website at http://www.uysa.org/education.html. Coaching classes are usually offered before the Fall and between the Fall and Spring seasons. For the most convenient class, please make sure that you pay careful attention to class offerings on the state website. New Coaches have a one year grace period to coach without a license. After that, no exceptions will be made. All Coaches and Asst Coaches must be licensed in order to coach. State Coaches and Asst. Coaches must hold a D License. All District Coaches and Asst Coaches must hold an E License.
What information is there about tryouts?
Tryout and Registration Information Requested
As a service to our members, UYSA will publish Tryout and Registration
information for the 2007-08 season. Please send this information to
webmaster at: ckolli9@aol.com. Please include all pertinent information,
i.e. dates, times, location and address, etc. Also add your contact
information: name, organization, email address and/or phone number.
Publication will start April 15.
The following notes concerning player advancement and recruitment are taken
from the UYSA bylaws.
3:06:03 PLAYER ADVANCEMENT. Coaches, administrators and other UYSA adult volunteers are pledged to assist players in reaching the highest level of play within UYSA that their skills, desires and inclinations permit. Those
individuals that interfere with or subvert the efforts of others to help players reach these goals (such as actively discouraging players from trying out for competitive teams) are subject to disciplinary action (this does not apply where a team has been established and playing for that year, and player advancement would cause the team to drop below eleven players, resulting in its disbandment).
POLICY: PLAYER RECRUITMENT.
Coaches, administrators or others who persist in unwelcome attempts to
secure a player's services after the player or his/her parents have
indicated their decision not to participate in the program are
subject to disciplinary action.
What are the birthdates for each age division?
Age groups an can be found on the State website under "Administration/Staff"
and "Bylaws and Policies," "Registration Rules and Policies."
http://www.uysa.org/bylaws_section3.pdf
What are the minimum and maximum players allowed on a team?
U8-U9 District 4 Academy teams must have a minimum of 6 players to register and are allowed a maximum of 10 players on a roster. U7 players are not allowed to play up in this division.
U10 and U11 teams must have a minimum of 7 players to register and are allowed a maximum of 12 players on a roster.
U12 through U16 and above must have a minimum of 11 players to register and are allowed a maximum of 18 players on a roster.
U17 and above teams must have a minimum of 11 players to register and are allowed a maximum of 22 players on a roster. However, only 18 players are eligible to show up to any one game.
What are the rules for multiple rostering, player release and player transfers?
How to RELEASE A PLAYER
Players who are no longer playing on your team need to have a Player Action Form filled out. These forms need to be filled out immediately as you are aware of a player moving or going to quit the team because you will need to get signature from both the player and the parents of the player in order to release them. Signatures from the coach and the district chair person must be on form. All completed forms and the players card must be turned in before player can be removed from the roster.
How to TRANSFER A PLAYER
Any player wanting to transfer from one team to another must fill out a Player Action Form. The release from the current team must be filled out and signed by all persons (player, parent of player, coach, district registrar, and district chairperson). Then fill out the information on the team player is going to in the next section of the form again all signatures required again. Turn in the player action form and the players card from the team they are leaving along with the transfer fee to the league registrar.
How to MULITPLE ROSTER A PLAYER
Some players are allowed to play on two teams at the same time with some guidelines. Both teams must be playing in the same play level (either both teams playing in the district program or both teams playing in the state program) Players must be a true Ul1 player or older. The teams must be in 2 separate age groups. The player’s first team will be considered the primary team which also means primary commitment to the team. Player Action form must be filled out with all the proper signatures then take form and multi roster fee to league registrar.
Answers to these questions can also be found in the State Registration Rules and Policies – Section 3 http://www.uysa.org/bylaws_section3.pdf
What is an "alignment form" and why do I need one?
In order for a team to get placed competitively in their first season of
State play, the coach must provide alignment statistics on games and/or
tournaments played against other current State Teams. Keeping good records
of each game played using a "Match Analysis Worksheet" will help when it
becomes necessary to provide a detailed "Alignment Form" with your
registration papers for State play.

How does State Alignment work?
Current alignment policy can be found in the State Bylaws under "Competition
Board." http://www.uysa.org/bylaws_section6.pdf
A more complete explanation of the alignment policy is in the process of
being written by the State Competition Board. Announcements will be made
once those revisions have been approved.
New State Sideline Policy - Spring 2007
As of the Spring 2007 season, the state (UYSA) will be adopting a new
sideline policy to help games go more smoothly. Due to these changes, the
district will also be adopting the same policy. Attached is a picture of
the new policy and the positions on the field touchline for both teams and
parents.
Divisions With Combined Ages
Please be aware when divisions are combined (i.e. 14/15) ref fees and ball
sizes are determined based on the older age.
Can a High School Player also play UYSA at the same time?
UHSAA standards state that a High School player cannot play anywhere else if
they make the high school team.
